The prehistoric sanctuary of Monte d'Accoddi, situated in the northwestern Nurra region near Sassari, is an architectural phenomenon unique within the Mediterranean basin. Originating during the Middle Neolithic (Abealzu-Filigosa culture, circa 3,200–2,700 BC), this monumental site resembles a Mesopotamian ziggurat.
Constructed in two distinct phases, the site includes a massive sloped stone ramp (41.5 meters or 136.2 feet long) that ascends to a raised trapezoidal platform. The platform holds a sacred building painted in ochre red, known as the "Red Temple". The surrounding archaeological terrain also contains massive megalithic standing stones (menhirs), a large spherical sacred stone, and Neolithic dolmen tombs.
The archaeological park is managed by the Sassari municipality. While guided tours are unavailable, standard information boards are placed around the ramp.
