Nora Archaeological Ruins

Ancient Roman & Phoenician seaport by the sea | Pula Peninsula
Archaeological Park of Nora ruins

Historical & Maritime Chronicles

The ancient coastal city of Nora, situated on the Capo Pula peninsula roughly 40 kilometres (24.8 miles) southwest of Cagliari, is one of the most structurally complete archaeological parks in the Western Mediterranean. Initially settled by Nuragic clans, the harbor developed into a major trade center under Phoenician, Carthaginian, and Roman rule.

Its narrow promontory layout allowed it to dominate sea routes for centuries, but also left it exposed to coastal storms and pirate raids, which led to its abandonment in the 8th century AD. Today, travelers can walk through public baths, a preserved Roman theater, temples, and residential villas displaying elaborate stone mosaics, with some ruins partially submerged beneath the turquoise sea water.
